Consumer Health Data Policy
1. Why this policy exists
Laws such as Washington’s My Health My Data Act, Nevada’s consumer health data law and Connecticut’s privacy law protect “consumer health data”. That can include information about your mental or emotional health. This policy explains how we handle that data. It adds to our Privacy Policy.
2. What health data we collect
We may collect the following, which could count as consumer health data:
- quiz answers about how you feel, for example lonely, anxious, exhausted, unheard or unwanted;
- answers about your relationship, conflict, intimacy, and life stages such as pregnancy, postpartum or menopause, and about conditions such as ADHD, if you choose to share them;
- what you type into course exercises, and your use of the SOS feature;
- any conclusions we draw from these answers to choose your plan.
3. How we collect it
Directly from you, when you answer the quiz or use the course. We don’t buy health data, and we don’t collect it from other sources.
4. Why we use it
- to build your personal plan and choose your lessons;
- to run the course and save your progress;
- to show you safety resources if your answers suggest you may be at risk;
- to improve the quiz with our own quiz analytics. We look at answers in combined form. With your analytics consent (in the US outside Washington and Nevada: unless you opt out), our analytics provider Amplitude processes the answers you pick for us, linked to a random id instead of your name or email.
We never send your answers to ad platforms, and we never use your answers for ad targeting. If you allow marketing (in the US outside Washington and Nevada: unless you opt out), our server tells Google when someone signs up or buys, with your email address in hashed form, so we can count which ads work. The Google tag on our website and in the quiz also tells Google which pages you visited, so we can show our ads to past visitors. That tells Google that you visited, signed up for or bought Reconnected. It never includes your answers.
5. Your consent
The first screen of the quiz says: “By continuing, you agree to our Terms of Use, Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.” We collect your answers only after you continue by picking your first answer. At that moment we record that you agreed: the time, the version of that sentence and the random id our site keeps in your browser (not your name or email). You can stop the quiz at any time. We ask for a separate consent before we would ever share your health data for any purpose other than running the Service. Today we don’t share it for any other purpose. We will never sell it. If we ever wanted to, we would first ask for your signed authorization as the law requires.
6. Who we share it with
Only service providers that host and run our website, quiz and app for us, and our analytics provider Amplitude as described above, under written contracts that forbid them to use it for anything else. Our email provider receives only your name, email, plan status and plan theme, never your answers. Ad platforms never receive your answers. You can ask us for a list of these providers.
7. No geofencing
We don’t use location tracking to send messages or ads to people near health care facilities.
8. Your rights
- confirm whether we collect, share or sell your health data, and get a list of the third parties we share it with;
- get a copy of it;
- have it deleted, including from our service providers’ systems;
- withdraw your consent at any time.
